"You're assisting the Mary MacKillop Foundation to improve the lives of Australia's most vulnerable and marginalised through education"
2018 Community Grants Announcement!

The Mary MacKillop Foundation is pleased to announce the funding for 22 life-changing community projects in 2018, which aim to improve the lives of vulnerable and marginalised Australians through education.

If it were not for your generosity, many of the projects that we support through the Mary MacKillop Foundation might not otherwise receive funding needed to get off the ground.

The Community Grants Program began as a response to the various on-the-ground ministries of the Sisters of St Joseph working with disadvantaged communities across Australia.

The grants reflect the Sister’s intention of working with the poorest and those who would otherwise fall through the cracks, and we’ve since supported 688 projects to date.

The 2018 grants will spread across urban, regional and very remote communities, and support a wide variety of needs including asylum seekers and refugees, women facing homelessness and people living with disability.

The Foundation continues the legacy of Saint Mary MacKillop by improving the lives of vulnerable Australians through empowerment and education and the latest 2018 grants announcement of $175,000 will directly impact thousands.

The projects we partner with focus on education, in all its forms.  They help people with significant challenges in their daily lives to:

  • Increase their confidence and self-belief, thus improving their participation in life’s activities.
  • Build social skills, such as communication, to grow in independence and help create better relationships.
  • Improve their health and wellbeing.
  • Create a sense of belonging and purpose and feel part of a community.
  • Participate in training or complete a qualification that improves employment opportunities.

As the Foundation relies solely on donations and partnerships, we’re grateful for your support and engagement with our work. By partnering with 22 community organisations in 2018, we aim to change lives for the better through education and to create a society that responds to people in need.

Testimonial from one of our recent recipients, The Glen Rehab Centre on the Central Coast:

“Thank you to the Mary MacKillop Foundation for this opportunity. Prevention, education and outreach are difficult to source funding for, as the benefits are not seen immediately and the outcomes are difficult to measure. The outcomes often don’t come into fruition until years or decades down the track, so we are very grateful to the Foundation for having faith in this project and supporting education of our youth.” – The Glen
