In the same way that Australia's first saint, St Mary MacKillop, responded to the needs of her time, the Mary MacKillop Foundation responds to the needs of our time to relieve suffering and give hope through small life changing projects.
The Travelling Sisters Roadshow was a free educational initiative to assist small life changing projects. From March to October in 2011, two sisters from the congregation of the Sisters of St Joseph, of which Mary MacKillop was the founder, used fun and engaging activities to educate young Australians about the Mary MacKillop Foundation whilst helping young people to be inspired to improve the quality of life of people in all parts of Australia affected by poverty
The Sisters visited schools and town centres across Australia, providing education and awareness of the Foundation. The Sisters spent a number of hours at each school, discussing with them the legacy work of St Mary MacKillop and empower young people to "Never see a need without trying to do something about it" (quote: St Mary MacKillop).
The sisters also did presentations to a variety of adult groups in the community who requested a visit in city and rural areas.
The Travelling Sisters Roadshow visited VIC, SA, WA, NSW, and QLD with a special launch event at each state coinciding with fundraising activities. National and state politicians had a visit from the Roadshow and attended the state events.
In 2011 all donations from the Travelling Sisters Roadshow to the foundation will go toward small life changing projects in Australia.
This program was available to schools and community groups throughout Australia and we are inviting schools ans and other organisations to take part in 2012, which will also include Tasmania.
Leading tho Roadshow is Sister Julianne Murphy, a qualified teacher in both primary and secondary schools who has been a principal at a number of schools throughout South Australia.
