Corazon Centre

Mary MacKillop Foundation $5000 Grant

Corazon Centre is a place to recover, receive, regenerate and rejuvenate.

Let me tell you about two women who have been guests at the Corazon Centre in Werribee Victoria. (The Corazon Centre is set up to provide respite to women in need.) “Melanie” is a depressed sole parent in need of some TLC . A neighbouring parish referred her and suggested it would be a great chance for Melanie to receive a break. “Melanie’s” time at Corazon meant that she could be pampered by the staff Jenny and Fiona. One of the highlights of “Melanie’s” four day stay was a long relaxing massage each day and just time, for her soul to be calmed. Jenny took her to the pictures one day and on a pleasant outing to a trendy shopping strip for a latte and cake. It is easy to see that the little things in life make a difference. The second woman I shall tell you about is “Molly.” She has been to Corazon three times now. She has an attachment to alcohol as well as psychiatric issues. Life is stressful for “Molly” and she needs a friendly “Corazon” face to greet her when she is discharged from the Hospital. This has happened a couple of times now. Again a massage, a good diet of meat and vegetables, a trip to a local craft market, a few comfortable nights of secure sleep can make a huge difference to a woman’s morale and sense of well-being.

“Thanks to the Mary MacKillop Foundation we have some extra funds to be able to offer the women a little treat and some TLC.” smiled Sr Jenny “and just having chocolate biscuits rather that arrowroot biscuits makes someone’s time at Corazon a little more special.
