Report on The Walking up, Talking up Country Project.

The Walking Up, Talking Up Country project enabled the membership of the Milriwang Tungari to participate in a Cultural revival of the Kaurna Heritage.

We were able to visit significant sites withing the Kaurna traditional boundaries. The main Dreaming Stories of the Kaurna people is the ancestral Being, Tjibulkie, whose journey can be traced from Marion along the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis in South Australia.

This project contributed to the understanding of our Cultural Heritage, gave us Cultural site identification, helped in the process of passing down of cultural knowledge to the younger generation and promoted leadership among our young people. It allowed for the sharing of cultural knowlege from the Elders to the young people.

It was pleasing to see the pride and respect that our young people displayed after our cultural excursion and it gave us hope for a continued cultural future.

Being led by our Elders ensured that the cultural knowledge was presented in a credible manner. It is hoped that projects like this one will mean that our cultural heritage will never be lost.
